Our Faith Community

We believe that all people are created in the image of God as persons of sacred worth. We believe that even though we tend to obscure and distort it, this divine image is what is deepest in us. And we believe that the healing love of Jesus Christ restores what has been distorted, recovering our truest selves, the persons we were made to be.

This means that we long to embrace all people with our Lord’s renewing love regardless of race, ethnicity, age, sex, disability, background, status or sexual orientation. We hope to become a community ever more authentically ablaze with the divine image, sharing a life in Christ, a life together, and a life for others worthy of Jesus.

We are an intergenerational family of faith in Christ - children, youth and adults of all ages and backgrounds. We are people blessed with an array of gifts and weighed down by an array of burdens. While some of us have Presbyterian roots, many come from different Christian faith traditions, and others are new to the Christian faith. Our politics run red to blue, and our theology leaves room for people to ask real questions and come from different perspectives.

The unity of our congregation lies in Christ alone – in hearts passionately, though imperfectly, surrendered to him.

At First Presbyterian Church, we hope to offer pathways for people of all ages and stages of life to grow in relationship with Christ, to grow in relationship with one another, and to grow in their participation in God’s mission of renewing love for the world. Such growth comes from risk, a word that captures well the essence of what we mean by ‘faith.’
